I finally tried daily toolbox talks and they actually fixed our morning mess
I blew off the 10 minute standup idea for years because it felt like a waste of payroll. But last month we had two near misses on the same site in one week, so I gave it a shot on a 14 man crew. Every morning at 6:45 we do 10 minutes with 3 items: yesterday's close calls, today's hazards, and one thing the crew wants to bring up. Three weeks in and no lost time, plus the guys are actually flagging bad ladders and open holes before I see them. The one thing I had to change was let them talk first, because when I did all the talking it turned into a lecture and nobody said a word. What's your magic number for how long a toolbox talk should run before the crew tunes out?
