Last month on a site in Boise, we had a pour scheduled for 7 AM and the supplier showed up two hours late because their dispatcher wrote down the wrong address. By the time the truck arrived, the rebar crew had already packed up and left for another job, and I had to pay them a half-day standby fee. Then the finishers rushed the slab to beat a rain front, and we ended up with cold joints in three sections that had to be torn out the next week. The total hit around $14,000 between the wasted concrete, the labor redo, and the expedited materials. What I keep thinking about is how one bad phone number downstream wrecked half the week, and I still haven't figured out how to make suppliers double-check their paperwork. Has anyone else had a single admin mistake cascade like that, or do you build a buffer into every schedule for it?

Man, that is brutal. I had something similar happen a few years back, but it was the concrete plant mixing the wrong PSI for a driveway job. We didn't catch it until the truck was already on site, and the whole pour had to be scrapped. The thing that saved me after that was making my dispatcher call the supplier the day before to confirm everything in writing, not just over the phone. We also started putting a 2 hour buffer in the schedule for any delivery, so when someone is late it doesn't kill the whole day. It costs a little bit in planning, but it beats paying crews to stand around doing nothing.
