PSA: My change order log hit 22 open items before I finally saw the pattern
I started tracking every change order on a 14 unit townhome job in Boise back in March, mostly because the owner kept asking why we were behind. At the 22nd open item I pulled them all into one sheet and it turned out 17 of them traced back to the same thing: nobody signed off on site conditions before the framers started. So I added a one page photo sheet at each phase walk, signed by the super and the owner's rep, and the next four jobs never crossed 6 open items. It takes maybe 20 minutes a week and it has kept a lot of finger pointing off my plate. How are you all logging change orders so they don't pile up like this?
