Rant: a one day bathroom rough in turned into 22 days because of a cast iron drain I could not see
Last month I took a small job in Peoria redoing a half bath, and I figured it was three days of work, maybe four. When I opened the floor I found the old cast iron drain had a crack under the slab, so the plumber and I spent a week just getting permits and waiting on a camera scope to see how far it ran. We ended up cutting out 14 feet of pipe and patching concrete, which added close to $3,800 I had not bid. It took 22 days total and I ate most of the overage myself. How do you all handle surprise underground work when the homeowner is on a fixed budget?
