Saw a framing crew use a chalk line for layout and it hit me how much time I waste

I was walking past a site last Tuesday near the downtown loop, watching these guys frame out a townhouse. They had this old guy running the chalk line like it was second nature, snapping lines and the whole crew just moved. Meanwhile I've been spending 20 minutes with a laser level and tape on every wall, second guessing myself. Made me realize I'm overcomplicating the simple stuff. Has anyone else had a moment where watching someone else work made you change your whole approach?

Do you think the old school guys just have this muscle memory thing that no amount of fancy tools can beat? Watching that must have been like seeing a master at work, it's humbling in a way. I think we over-engineer everything because we're scared of messing up, but they just trust their hands and a piece of string. Maybe the real skill is knowing when to drop the tech and grab the chalk line. It's a reminder that good work starts with good basics, not the latest gadget.

Remembered my buddy Mike trying to hang kitchen cabinets last year. Had this fancy laser level, digital angle finder, the whole deal. Spent forty minutes setting everything up. His dad walked in, grabbed a worn out tape measure and a pencil. Had those cabinets level and plumb in fifteen minutes. Just eyeballed it and tapped with his hand. Mike's face went red but he packed up all that gear the next day.
