Shoutout to the old foreman who told me to stop using those big scheduling charts

I used to print out giant Gantt charts every Monday morning for our crew of 12 on a job in Cleveland. Last week the foreman, Mike, pulled me aside and said I was wasting time and paper. He showed me how he tracks everything on a whiteboard with just task names and dates, no fancy software. It hit different because he wasn't being mean, just practical, and I saved about 3 hours that same week. Now I only use the detailed charts for the client meetings. Has anyone else switched to simpler methods for tracking daily work?

Those detailed charts might save you time but they also cover your tail when something goes wrong and the client starts asking questions. Better to have that paper trail than try to remember what Mike said two weeks ago.

Paper trails are great but sometimes they just slow down real progress.
