The $18 laser level that finally fixed our stair stringer layout

We've been doing stairs by hand for years, but last month our lead guy was out sick so I had to mark the stringers myself. I grabbed the old string and square method and botched the first one so bad we had to pull three treads. Picked up a cheap self leveling laser from Home Depot and redid the layout in about 20 minutes. The difference was night and day, all the risers came out within 1/8 inch of each other. Anyone else made the switch from manual layout to a laser for complex cuts and never looked back?

Last spring I grabbed one for laying out some wacky angled shed rafters and honestly it saved me a full afternoon of rechecking math. Keep the bubble level on the housing though, those self levelers drift if the floor shifts under you.
