TIL I was marking my own up in the field and it cost me a whole pour
Back in April I caught myself laying out anchor bolts by measuring off the slab edge instead of the control line like the plans said. Turns out the slab was poured 3/8 of an inch out of square and I'd been copying that error onto every bolt set on the west wall of this little retail build in Naperville. My foreman Rick walked out, eyeballed it, and said "you're reading the wrong line, man," then pulled a string from the benchmark and showed me every set was off. We had to chip and reset 14 bolts the day before the concrete pour, and I ate a 6 hour delay on the schedule. Do y'all always hand your newer guys the control line first thing, or is that just a me problem?
Wait, so the control line itself was good and you were just measuring off the slab edge instead? Because a 3/8 out of square slab doesn't really explain the bolts being off if you were pulling from a real control line. Sounds more like nobody set the line or showed you where it was, and Rick caught it after the fact. Handing a new guy the benchmark and control line on day one should be step one, not a lesson learned the hard way. That's on whoever ran the layout, not just you.
