That $400 RF scanner saved my kitchen reno, but not how I planned

I spent a whole weekend trying to find a buried wire before cutting into a ceiling for recessed lights. Buddy kept saying just poke around. I dropped $400 on a used RF scanner from a guy in Toledo. Found the wire in 10 minutes. But the real save was three weeks later when it caught a energized line behind a wall in a 1960s house that my cheap tester said was dead. That could have been a bad day. Has anyone else had a tool pay for itself in a way you didn't expect when you bought it?
