A client asked for 'dimensional' color and meant something totally different
Last Thursday a regular booked a full highlight with 'dimensional' written in the notes. I did my usual balayage style with three tones. She came back Friday upset, said she wanted chunks like her cousin's 2005 streak look. I had to redo the whole head for free, about 3 hours of work. Now I ask every client what 'dimensional' means to them before I mix anything. Has anyone else had a color word that means ten different things depending on the person?
My sister asked for "beach waves" once and showed up with a photo of that wet seal look from the 90s. I spent 20 minutes explaining that salt spray was not the same as actually dunking her head in the ocean. She still left half disappointed. Now we just don't talk about hair in my family.
Three hours to redo that is brutal, but the cousin's 2005 streaks thing tells me she probably showed you a photo of Kelly Osbourne and didn't say it out loud. Every time I hear "lived-in" now I ask if they mean slept-in or like they just crawled out of a swamp.
