Debate: Did that $200 keratin treatment save my hair or ruin it?

I dropped $200 on a professional keratin treatment about 6 months ago. For the first month, my hair was silky smooth and frizz-free, it felt like a miracle. But then the buildup started making my roots look greasy after just one day, and I think it actually dried out my ends over time. My friend swears by hers and gets touch-ups every 3 months, but I'm scared to try again. Has anyone else had mixed results with keratin, or did I just get a bad formula?

Piled on my own experience with that exact same problem. For me, the first few weeks were amazing then it went downhill fast. Greasy roots and dry ends were a nightmare to deal with, I had to wash my hair every single day just to look halfway normal. Your mileage may vary of course, but I think a big part of it is the formula and how it's applied. I'd say try a different salon or maybe a milder treatment if you ever give it another shot.

The salon I went to used way too strong of a solution for my fine hair, and it processed way faster than they expected. Left it on maybe 5 minutes too long and my hair has never been the same since. I had to switch to a sulfate-free shampoo and do a protein mask once a week just to keep the breakage under control. Took about 6 months before my hair felt healthy again. If you do try again, ask for a bond builder added to the formula, it makes a huge difference with the damage.

Totally feel you on that one, it really sucks when it backfires like that.
