Finally seeing progress on my balayage after 3 months

I've been practicing balayage on my sister for the last 3 months and this week the color actually melted right instead of looking like stripes. She said it finally looks like something she'd pay for. Anyone else have a technique that just clicked one day out of nowhere?

A fluke at first but now I can do it again, so yeah breakthrough.

Did it feel more like you just got lucky the first time or did you kinda know you had it in you? I'm asking cause I've had a couple times where something clicked and I wasn't sure if I could trust it. Happy for you @the_fiona, it's a good feeling when you can start to rely on it.
