My coworker swore by using a tiny bit of cornstarch for oily roots and I thought she was nuts
She told me to mix a pinch into dry shampoo for a client with super oily hair, and I was sure it would look chalky or clump. Tried it last Tuesday on a regular who always gets greasy by noon, and it worked perfectly for like six hours. She even asked what new product I used because her hair felt so clean. Anyone have other weird pantry tricks that actually work for shine or texture?

That cornstarch trick is a total game changer, I use it all the time.

Wait, is this really a big deal? It's just cornstarch. @kai_webb91 acts like it's some magic powder, but it's the same stuff you thicken gravy with. I tried it once and yeah, it soaks up oil, but so does baby powder or even just washing your hair. It's fine in a pinch, but let's not act like it's a salon-level fix. It can get messy and if you use too much you'll look like you have gray roots.

Honestly I get where you're coming from but it works way better than baby powder for me. The texture is finer so it blends in without that chalky look, and it's way cheaper than dry shampoo.
