Rant: I thought balayage was overhyped until a client in Dallas brought in a photo from 6 months ago
She showed me her old highlights and the grow out line was so harsh she'd been wearing hats all summer, which sold me on trying a freehand technique I'd been avoiding for 2 years. Any of you switch your whole approach after one client's before photo?
That photo must have hit different because you weren't just looking at her hair, you were looking at 6 months of her hiding under hats. I feel like that's the thing with grow out, it's not the color that gets people, it's the line. Once you see someone basically lose half a year of feeling good about themselves over a hard line, it's hard to unsee it. So yeah, one before photo can wreck your whole routine and honestly that's probably a good thing.
