Tried a new bond builder and my toner turned purple on a level 6 base

Mixed in the bond additive straight into my color like I always do, but this one from a different brand reacted with the toner and turned my client's hair purple. Has anyone else had an additive mess with their formula like that?

Oh man, I gotta respectfully disagree here... mixing it with water first just sounds like it'd throw off the consistency more than anything. The pH thing could be the issue but that's a problem with the bond builder itself, not how you mix it in. I think some of these new bond builders just don't play nice with certain toners period.

Skip the water step, just try a different bond builder with that toner.

Saw a video from a color educator talking about this exact thing. She said some bond builders have a high pH that can shift toner colors especially on lighter bases like a level 6. It might not be the brand itself but how the additive chemically reacts with the direct dyes in the toner. You could try mixing the bond builder with water first before adding it to the color next time.
