My old foreman told me to never trust a new load chart without a field test first.

I thought he was just being stubborn, but on a job in Spokane, a chart was off by about 500 pounds for a long reach. We caught it because we did a small test pick before the main lift. How do you guys verify charts on unfamiliar equipment?

Man, that's smart. We always do a test lift with something we know the exact weight of, like a pallet of block. If the chart says one thing and the scale says another, you know right away.

Ever catch a chart being wrong by more than just a few pounds?

Guess the chart writers skipped leg day and math class.
