OSHA's 2010 crane rule update finally made me stop skipping rigging checks
Honestly I used to think the daily wire rope inspection was just busywork. Then I read the actual OSHA 3705 fact sheet that said 38% of crane accidents from 1997 to 2009 were tied to rigging failure, not operator error. That stat hit me because I've run a Grove RT530 for 6 years and never once caught a bad spot before it mattered. Last Tuesday I found a 2 inch crushed strand near the hook block, exactly the kind of thing that sheet warned about. Anyone else have a close call that made them take the paperwork seriously?
