Rigging with a spreader bar versus a two-leg choker on precast panels, and it isn't even close
We set 14 precast wall panels in Council Bluffs on Tuesday and the first three went up with a two-leg choker at 45 degrees, which gave us nothing but pinched edges and a panel that kept wanting to twist. Switched to a spreader bar after lunch and the same load hung dead level with the sling angle sitting at 90, so the crew stopped fighting it and we shaved about 40 minutes off the back half of the day. The old heads on my crew swear the choker is faster because you don't have to swap hardware, but losing a panel edge to crushing costs way more than the 10 minutes of rigging. What are you all running on panels under 8,000 pounds, and does the spreader actually slow you down or is that just habit talking?
