Picked the villain POV for my fantasy prompt over the hero route, now my readers are mad at me
I chose to write the kingdom's tax collector as the protagonist for a prompt about rebellion, and 3 people in my writers group called it 'unrelatable', but honestly the creepy bureaucrat angle made the best 2,000 words I've written all summer, has anyone else taken the 'bad guy' side and gotten weird backlash?
Keep the tax collector and don't let their noise change your story, those readers will either come around or they won't and that's on them... I've been there and the weird backlash usually dies down once the next chapter drops.
