Pro tip: I tried writing a story from a prompt versus building my own world from scratch.

I used the prompt 'a librarian finds a book that writes itself' and finished a draft in two weeks, but my original idea about space pirates is still just notes after a month. The constraint actually helped me focus. What's a prompt that got you unstuck recently?

Totally! That lighthouse prompt is genius because it gives you a weird, specific problem that the characters have to solve together.

Last year I was stuck on a family drama story for months. A writing friend suggested the prompt "a character inherits a lighthouse, but the light won't turn off." That simple image gave me a mystery to solve and a strange setting. It forced my characters to have a concrete problem to work on together. I finished that draft in a month, which never happens for me.

Honestly that's such a good point about a simple problem fixing a bigger one. Tbh I see it all the time with people trying to make a big change and just freezing up. Giving yourself one weird, clear thing to focus on cuts through all the noise. It's like trying to clean the whole house versus just deciding to fix that one squeaky door. The small win gets everything else moving.
