Pro tip: I was dead wrong about prompt generators being a shortcut
For the last 6 months I thought those AI writing prompt generators were just for lazy people who can't come up with their own ideas (especially for sci-fi prompts). Then my buddy challenged me to use one for a flash fiction contest and the generated prompt about a subway system that runs on memories actually sparked my best story of the year. Has anyone else found that leaning on a tool they judged harshly ended up improving their writing process?

Interesting seeing people still on the fence about this. I actually went the complete other direction with it. I used to rely on prompt generators heavy for a few months when I first started writing seriously, but now I barely touch them at all. Thing is, those generators give you this polished, generic starting point that feels good in the moment but it never had my voice or my weird little quirks. The more I used them, the more my writing sounded like everyone else's, just kind of flat and safe. What actually got me unstuck was forcing myself to sit with a blank page and a single weird question about my own life, like what if the crack in my bathroom ceiling was actually a map of somewhere. For me that raw, messy starting point forced more creative thinking than any generated prompt ever did.

Yeah man, same here. Used to roll my eyes at them but now they're kinda handy for getting unstuck.
