Stumbled on a stat about how many plot ideas come from dreams and it blew my mind
I was reading this old writing blog from 2018 yesterday, and they had a poll from a workshop they ran. It said something like 62% of writers in that group got their best story idea from a dream. I always thought that was just a cliche from horror movies or sci fi, but apparently it's a real thing for a lot of people. I personally have never remembered a dream clearly enough to turn it into a story, but I'm wondering if I'm missing out. Has anyone here actually written something decent from a dream and had it work out?

Wait, did the poll say published writers or just folks in the workshop?

The poll was from some random workshop survey, not anything legit. Dream credits are usually just writers being quirky in interviews anyway.

Good point about published vs workshop writers, that could skew things a lot. Would be interesting to see how many pro authors actually credit dreams for their published books.
