That chat with my buddy Dave about horror prompts got me thinking
I was talking to Dave, a guy I know from the hardware store, about how all my horror story ideas start with someone finding an old journal or a locked room. He said real fear comes from stuff that feels too normal at first, like a familiar noise that's just slightly off. How do you guys twist everyday stuff into something creepy without making it feel forced?

Totally get what you mean. It's when stuff is just a little off, like the fridge humming in a key it never hummed before, that gets under my skin. Your buddy Dave sounds like he knows his stuff.

Friend of mine had this exact thing happen with his car. It started making this tiny clicking noise on cold mornings, just barely there, and he ignored it for weeks. Finally his engine threw a rod on the highway, and the mechanic said that clicking was the first warning sign. So yeah, @brianreed, Dave's advice about catching those small changes early is spot on.

Wish my fridge would warn me before throwing a rod, @ray_williams.
