Beware the $45 credit score 'repair' kit I bought online

I saw an ad on Instagram for this DIY credit repair kit that promised to fix your report in 30 days. Paid $45 for it and all it had was a bunch of template letters I could have written myself for free. I spent three hours filling out forms and mailing them to the credit bureaus, and NOTHING changed on my report. Has anyone else fallen for one of these overpriced kits or found something that actually works?

That's rough, but sadly pretty common with those kits. Your best bet is to just directly dispute any bad items yourself through each bureau's website for free. I had a similar issue with an old collections account and wrote a short letter saying it wasn't mine, uploaded a copy of my ID, and it was gone in about three weeks. The real trick is to keep at it and send disputes every 30 days if they don't remove something that's clearly wrong. Also, check your free annual credit reports first so you know exactly what to target before you start mailing anything.

Seems like everything’s a fight these days, even with the credit bureaus, @morgan_king36.
