Chase denied my dispute over a $67 charge and the reason made zero sense
Called Chase last Tuesday about a $67 charge from a gym in Denver I never signed up for. The rep said the charge was "verified" because the merchant had my zip code, which apparently counts as proof. I asked for the dispute paperwork and they mailed me a form that has to be notarized, over sixty seven bucks. Has anyone actually won one of these or should I just eat the loss?
Wait, a zip code counts as proof now? That makes no sense at all, tons of people live in the same zip. Honestly a merchant having your zip just means they got your info from somewhere, maybe a data leak, it does not mean you signed up for anything. I would not just eat the 67 bucks, that is real money and Chase is being lazy here. Call back and ask for a supervisor, not the first rep, and tell them a zip code is not proof of authorization. Also ask them to send you the actual signed agreement from the gym, because if the gym cannot show that, the charge should come off. If they still say no, file a complaint with the CFPB online, that gets banks moving way faster than a notarized form.
