I just found out my credit card company can lower my rate if I ask

I was reading my card's terms online last week and saw a line about 'account review for APR reduction.' I called the number on the back, talked to a rep named Sarah, and just asked if I qualified. She checked my history and said yes, they could drop my rate from 24% to 19% right then. It took one phone call and five minutes. Has anyone else had luck getting a lower rate just by asking?

Wait, is that why my buddy's rate went down? He mentioned his card got cheaper after a call, and I figured he just got lucky. Maybe he saw the same tip shane_hayes mentioned. He said they dropped it from like 26% to 21% because he'd paid on time for a year.

My card was at 22% and I felt so dumb for just paying it! I finally called last month after seeing a tip online, and they dropped it to 18% for me. It was shockingly easy, like they just needed me to ask. I wish I had done it years ago, would have saved me a ton in interest. Now I feel like I was overpaying on purpose for no good reason.

Yeah I read that credit card companies often lower rates if you just ask.
