I paid off a $2,000 card balance in one go and my score actually dipped a bit
The credit bureau's system saw the account as 'newly inactive' and it temporarily hurt my average account age. Anyone else get a weird result from paying something off too aggressively?

Yeah that happens all the time, it's so annoying. The system is dumb and closing an account can hurt your average age of credit. Next time, maybe just pay it down to like a ten dollar balance and keep the account open. That way it still shows activity but your utilization is basically zero. The score should bounce back in a month or two anyway.

I just left a tiny balance and it worked for me.

Isn't it funny how we all have to learn these weird little tricks? CaseyThompson is right about the system being dumb, but it's just another example of finding the loopholes in life's dumb rules. You figure out the hack and just move on.
