I thought my credit score was fine because I paid my card in full every month

I applied for a car loan in Omaha and got a way higher rate than my friend, which made me check my report and see I had a $200 medical bill from two years ago I never knew about. The funny part is I'd been getting calls about it but thought it was a scam, so I just hung up. Has anyone else had a surprise like this pop up from ignoring unknown numbers?

Wait, you got calls about it and just hung up? I did the exact same thing with a random debt collector who kept calling about a $150 lab bill from a doctor's visit I didn't even remember. Turns out it was legit, and it tanked my score by like 30 points before I got it sorted. Worst part is I spent three months ignoring those calls because they sounded super scammy, but it was actually a collections agency being all pushy and unhelpful.

Classic move. My credit report once had a mystery cable bill from an apartment I hadn't lived in for years. Felt real smart about that one.

My old gym tried that with a two hundred dollar fee.

Ugh, is there anything more annoying than finding old bills you never agreed to? I had a random $40 charge from a phone company pop up years after I switched. Took three phone calls to clear it up. It's like they just hope you won't notice.
