My credit monitoring service failed to alert me about a $15 late payment

Honestly, I thought I had autopay set up on my utility bill, but last month I missed a $15 payment by two days. My credit monitoring service, which I pay $20 a month for, didn't send me any alert until 3 weeks later when my score dropped 40 points. I called the utility company and they agreed to remove the late mark as a goodwill gesture since it was my first miss in 5 years. Has anyone else had a monitoring service fail to catch something small but important like that?

One thing though, credit karma actually caught that for you after the fact, not before it happened, right? The free services usually pull data once a month, so they're just as slow as paid ones when it comes to real-time alerts. Might be worth checking if your monitoring service even promises instant alerts on small amounts, because a lot of them don't flag anything under $50.

yeah that kinda defeats the whole point of paying for monitoring innit? if they cant catch a small missed payment what are they even good for. credit karma free version caught a similar thing for me once fwiw.

Did calling the utility company fix your score or just the late mark?
