Noticed last week how many people in my neighborhood are freezing their credit reports after that data breach

I was at the coffee shop downtown on Tuesday and overheard three strangers talking about how they each spent $15 to lock down their credit files after the news broke, has anyone else seen this sudden jump in credit freezes?.

I froze mine last year after a different leak and honestly it's been no big deal to lift it when I need new credit lol.

gray_morgan says it's no big deal to lift the freeze, but that's $15 every time for each of the three bureaus. At this point it feels like we're all just paying to protect ourselves from companies that lost our data in the first place. For most people, the risk of someone actually opening credit in your name is pretty low if you just watch your accounts.

Yeah I read something about how all three bureaus are getting sued right now for making it hard to freeze and unfreeze accounts. @gray_morgan maybe it's just been easy for you but there's a whole class action out there saying they make it tricky on purpose. Seems like a racket that we gotta pay to lock our own info after they already messed up.
