Paid $85 for a 'credit repair kit' that was literally just a printout

Last March I got sucked into a late night ad for a credit repair program. $85 later, the package arrived with a spiral bound book and a list of form letters I could've found on Reddit for free. One template had a typo on line 2, and I caught it before sending, but still. I spent a weekend crafting dispute letters and mailed them off. Two months passed, and my score moved a whole 6 points. Has anyone actually gotten a win from these DIY kits, or is it all just snake oil?

Man, everything nowadays is just repackaged free advice with a fancy price tag.
