Rant: My credit card company just cut my limit by $2,000 without warning

I logged in yesterday and saw my available credit had dropped from $5,000 to $3,000. They said it was a 'routine account review' because I hadn't used the card much in six months. Has anyone had luck getting a limit reinstated after something like this?

Call them and ask for a review right now. They do this all the time when they think you are not profitable for them. Be ready to explain why you want the higher limit, like for big purchases or better credit scores. Sometimes they will put it back if you agree to use the card more.

Calling them is just a waste of time. They already made their decision based on your account history. Explaining why you want a higher limit won't change their computer models. Agreeing to use the card more sounds desperate and they know people say that and then don't follow through. It's better to just accept the lower limit and use a different card instead of begging.

Actually with Chase I called them about my Freedom card last year. My limit was stuck at $2,000 for like two years. I just told them I was planning a big vacation and wanted to put $3,000 on it for flights and hotels, which was true. They bumped it to $5,000 right there on the phone. I mean it probably helped that I had been using the card regularly and paying it off every month. Maybe it depends on the bank or who you get on the phone but it worked for me, idk.
