Wasted $45 on a credit score 'boost' service that did nothing
I signed up for some company called CreditMax last month because they promised to add rent payments to my credit report and raise my score fast. Cost me $45 upfront plus $15 a month, and after 4 weeks my score literally didn't move a single point. They just sent me a stupid report telling me to pay bills on time, which I already knew. Has anyone actually had a service like this work, or are they all scams?

Are you sure you didn't just pay $45 for a report that told you what you already knew? Sounds like a total waste, but did you actually check your score on your own before you signed up, because sometimes those services don't even report to the right bureaus.

Wait, hold up. You actually had to pay $45 just to see your own score? Bro, that's wild, I thought you could get that for free on Credit Karma or even your bank's app these days. I mean, did you at least check if that report was from the right bureau before you handed over your card info? That's some next-level stuff right there, paying for something you could probably get for zero dollars and zero cents.

Hold on, I gotta call something out real quick. Credit Karma doesn't show you your actual FICO score most of the time, it gives you a VantageScore which a lot of lenders don't even use. So while that service sounds like a total rip off, just checking Credit Karma isn't a full replacement if you're trying to see what a bank would pull. You're right that paying $45 for a generic reminder is highway robbery though.
