My neighbor said 'if you have nothing to hide, you don't need a VPN' and it got me thinking about privacy versus convenience.

I heard him say that while we were talking about internet bills last week, and it made me wonder if that attitude is why so many people skip basic security steps, or if he has a point about not overcomplicating things for normal users.

That "nothing to hide" line is exactly how my uncle got his identity stolen. He said the same thing, then someone opened a credit card with his info after a public wifi hack. It's not about hiding, it's about basic locks on your doors. Jamie804's story about their bank account is the perfect example, that's life ruining stuff over one bad coffee shop connection.

Remember my friend who laughed at using a VPN? He had to call @jamie804 for advice after his PayPal got hit at the airport.

I used to agree with him until my bank account got drained last year.

That "drained my account" line makes me think of my neighbor who lost $400 ordering pizza on public wifi.
