Totally, my old security camera got hacked because it still used the default password. The company never sent out a patch for it. Now I'm weird about every gadget in the house.

My local news did a story last week about a smart thermostat that kept trying to join a public wifi hotspot named "Free Internet." It's the same kind of thing... these devices just see a signal and try to connect. They have no idea what's safe. I read that a lot of them use really old software that never gets updates. It's kind of scary when you think about it. Your toaster shouldn't need antivirus software.

Wow, that story about the thermostat is wild. It makes me wonder, who's actually responsible for fixing this stuff when the company stops supporting a device? Like, do we just have a house full of ticking time bombs after a few years?
