Overheard a guy at Starbucks talking about SIM swapping

He was describing how someone took over his phone number in 10 minutes and drained his crypto wallet. I went home and added a PIN to my mobile account with T-Mobile. Have you guys locked down your carrier accounts yet?

Start with the PIN thing but honestly why wait until you hear a horror story at a coffee shop. I set up my account lock the second I heard about this stuff last year because people are out here stealing phones like it's a hobby. Did you also turn off number porting in your settings or just the PIN thing?

@murphy.tessa I get what you're saying but I actually went the other way on this. Turned off number porting first before messing with the PIN. Reason being if someone snatches your phone and has enough info to call your carrier pretending to be you, the port-out scam is way faster than them trying to figure out your PIN at a store. Had a buddy lose his whole Instagram account because they ported his number out in under 10 minutes while he was at the gym. The PIN thing is smart too but stopping that number transfer is the emergency brake before they even get rolling.

@murphy.tessa same here, good call on locking it down before something happens.
