PSA: My casual use of hotel charging ports came to a halt after a security wake-up call
I used to plug my phone into any USB port in hotel rooms without a second thought during business trips. That changed last month when a colleague's device got infected with malware from a compromised port in a lobby. Hearing about the data breach risk from what seemed like a convenient amenity was a real eye-opener! Now I only use my own wall adapter and a data-blocking cable when traveling. It's a simple switch that has massively improved my peace of mind on the road!

Read a whole thread on Reddit about this exact scam last week. @coleh39 has the right idea with isolating the problem, totally prevents the spread. My buddy in IT swears by data blockers now too.

Physical data blockers are just essential tech hygiene now.

Alarming incident, but your solution is spot on.

In a similar situation, I focused on containing the issue before it escalated. Isolating the problem area (physically or digitally, depending) prevented secondary headaches. A methodical approach often defuses the alarm faster than you'd expect.
