Woke up to 47 failed login alerts from a router I didn't even own

My neighbor's smart fridge somehow got into my network logs and triggered a security scan that locked me out of my own thermostat for 2 hours. I finally traced it to a default password we both used on the same brand, has anyone else had a device cross-talk like that?

Your fridge probably phoned home to a cloud server that logs every device on that network, so that's not cross-talk, that's a shared backdoor.

People keep acting like the cloud is this magical void, but its just someone else's computer with a copy of your data. Every smart device on your network is basically a keyhole into your whole digital life. So when your washer and your TV are chatting with the same outside server, that's not two gadgets talking to each other. That's one server quietly collecting a map of everything you own and do at home. No one signs up for that when they just want to preheat the oven from their phone.
