Judge Judy style dad joke got me banned from the PTA meeting

Last Tuesday I was helping set up the school fundraiser and told the principal her new filing system was like a dad joke, nobody gets it and it takes forever to explain. She laughed but the PTA treasurer didn't, turns out she invented that filing system. I tried to explain the joke was about puns and paperwork, which made it worse. Has anyone else had a harmless dad joke backfire on them like this?

Honestly I used to think timing was everything with jokes, but this story just proved it's really about knowing your audience.
