My dad jokes used to bomb hard until I started stealing from my 8 year old nephew
I used to force these long setup puns I'd find on Pinterest and my kids would just stare at me blankly. Then last Thanksgiving my nephew dropped a 'why did the scarecrow win an award? because he was outstanding in his field' and everyone cracked up. Now I just recycle his one liners from the car ride home and suddenly I'm the funny parent. Anyone else got a kid or niece/nephew who out jokes them every time?

That bit about the scarecrow being outstanding in his field is a classic. Reminds me of my nephew who once told me a knock-knock joke about a cow that goes "moo" and when I said "moo who?" he just yelled "make up your mind, lady!" Totally caught me off guard. Now I just parrot his best material at the dinner table and everyone thinks I'm a comedy genius.

Oh man, it's wild how we all end up as comedy middlemen for kids. I've noticed the same thing with my nephew's jokes - they always have that perfect mix of simple and unexpected that adults overthink. My sister tried to do a pun about a broken pencil once and it fell flat, but her kid says "what do you get when you cross a snowman and a vampire?" and the whole room leans in. Kids don't overcomplicate it, they just hit the punchline and move on. We could all learn something from that.

Oh tell me about it. The other day I tried to pass off my nephew's 'what do you call a fish with no eyes? a fsh' joke at my book club and my friend just stared at me like I grew a second head. My nephew is 10 and his comedic timing is better than mine after three cups of coffee. Guess I'm just the unofficial middleman for his material now. Feels like I'm living in my own shadow but at least I'm finally getting laughs instead of groans.
