Thought punchline length made a dad joke land, then my niece counted the words at dinner
My niece is 11 and she started counting words in my jokes at Sunday dinner in Fresno. Told her the one about the scarecrow winning an award because he was outstanding in his field. She said 12 words, 1 sentence, and everyone laughed. Then I stretched a short one about a broken pencil into 3 sentences and got nothing but forks scraping plates. Now I count my own setups out loud before posting here, and anything over 15 words gets cut. Anyone else notice shorter bits get more groans and that is the point?
