Called my bank and got them to stop selling my data last Tuesday

Honestly, I was on hold for like 20 minutes but the guy actually knew what I was talking about. He walked me through the opt out form for their third party sharing program and I submitted it right there. Ngl, I felt a little paranoid doing it but then I checked my spam folder yesterday and it was down to like 6 emails instead of 30. Has anyone else noticed a real difference after doing this with their bank?

Buddy of mine did this and his targeted ads got way less creepy.

Oh man, that's wild. I did the same thing with my credit union about a month ago and it was a whole different experience. The lady on the phone kept trying to upsell me on their "premium protection plan" before she'd even let me opt out. I had to say "no" like three times. But once I got through it, yeah, my spam dropped way off too. It's funny because I actually started looking into it more after that, and found out there's this whole system where banks just automatically assume you're cool with them selling your info unless you specifically say no. Like, why isn't it the other way around? You have to actively go and hunt down this form, and most people don't even know it exists. I told my neighbor about it and he said he'd been getting bombarded with loan offers for months, and after he opted out he said it stopped within a week. So yeah, it definitely works, but the process is annoying as hell.

Called my bank and got the same runaround but just kept saying no until they finally let me opt out.
