Cleaning out my old email and saw I had 1,247 unread privacy policy updates from the last 5 years.
It hit me that we've all just accepted this constant, silent data grab as a normal part of life now, which feels a lot different from when you used to actually read those things, or they didn't even exist.

That "silent data grab" is everywhere now. My smart TV shows ads for things I only said out loud near my phone. Fitness apps sell my morning run route to data brokers. We traded convenience for being listened to all the time, and the terms change in those emails no one reads.

Wait, his keyboard app was sharing everything he typed? That's a whole new level of creepy. It's one thing to listen, but reading every single word you type is just wrong. We really have no idea what's happening in the background.

Right? What even gives a keyboard app permission to do that in the first place?

Man, my buddy Mark got a weirdly specific ad for hiking boots right after he texted me about a trip. He checked the app permissions and found his keyboard app was sharing everything he typed. That silent data grab is real, and it creeps him out now.
