DAE notice how many apps quietly reset your privacy settings after an update?
My bank app in Tucson turned location sharing back on after a patch on March 3rd, and I only caught it because a receipt showed a store I never go to. People keep saying you own your data, but if the default flips back without a popup, who really controls it? I started checking every app after each update, and 4 out of 9 had changed something. How do you all keep track of this stuff without losing your mind?
That is so frustrating and I am glad you posted this because it makes me feel less crazy. Something very similar happened to me with a food delivery app where the update flipped my location back on and I only found out when it asked me to rate a place I had never been. The part you said about the default flipping back with no popup is the worst, because it feels like they are betting we will not notice. Checking after every single update is smart but wow does it wear you down after a while. What helps me a little is going into the privacy settings on my phone itself once a week and just scanning the location list, since it shows which apps asked recently. Still, we should not have to play detective just to keep what we already turned off.
