Dropped $150 on a 'privacy-focused' VPN that sold my browsing logs anyway
Signed up with a company called PrivateShield back in March because their ads talked big about zero logging. Found out last week they got hit with a lawsuit and the court docs showed they were keeping metadata for 18 months. I feel like an idiot. Emailed them for a refund and got ghosted. Anybody actually trust these VPN claims anymore or is it all marketing fluff?

Yeah @kaigibson, it's the same pattern with everything now isn't it? You buy something based on the big promises and then find out the fine print was hiding the real story. Feels like every company is just selling you a story instead of a service these days.

Hey, their ads were real slick" - yeah, slick as a wet floor and twice as dangerous. I trusted the marketing just like you said, figured the "military grade encryption" posters meant something. Lesson learned, my logs are out there somewhere probably getting passed around like a bad cold.

So what made you pick PrivateShield over the bigger names like Mullvad or Proton? Their ads seemed real slick, but I'm betting the fine print was buried somewhere. Did you check any independent audit reports before handing over your cash, or was it all just word of mouth and good marketing?
