I used to think data brokers were just a fact of life, but a call from a scammer in Florida changed my mind.
Three years ago, I got a call from someone claiming to be from my bank, and they knew my full name, address, and my last three purchases. It was a scam attempt. I traced it back to a data broker in Florida that had sold a list I was on. Before that, I figured my data was already out there and there was no point worrying. Now I see it's a real problem when companies can just sell your life details to anyone. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call from a data leak?

Ugh, my spam folder is basically my autobiography at this point.

Come on, @blake792, it can't be that bad. What's even in there, a bunch of fake pharmacy emails and "you've won a prize" stuff? That's just normal spam, not a life story.

Nah, I get it. My spam folder is like a weird time capsule of every dumb thing I signed up for years ago. It's kind of funny to scroll through and see what past me was into.
