I used to think data brokers were just a minor nuisance

A friend in Portland found my old address and my mom's name listed on a site called PeopleFinder for $2.99. I paid to see the full report and it had three past jobs, two old phone numbers, and my high school graduation year. The sheer amount of stuff they had, all compiled without my knowledge, made me realize this isn't just about ads. How do you even start getting that info removed?

That "sheer amount of stuff" is the real problem. It's not one leak but dozens of places selling your pieces, so removing it from one site just pushes you to the next. You end up playing a forever game of whack-a-mole that's designed to wear you out.

Used to think it was just one site to fix.

Wait, hold on. Did you say "one site" literally? Like you seriously thought there was just one single website selling your info? I mean, that's kind of cute in a way but man, that would have been a rough realization. I remember finding like seven different versions of my old address on one of those people search sites alone, and that was just one place.

It's like that time my friend tried to scrub his address from those people-finder sites, gave up after the third one lol.
