Just realized my fitness tracker data got sold to my insurance company
I got a notice from my health insurer last week saying my premium went down based on 'lifestyle metrics.' Turns out that free step tracker from my employer was feeding them data the whole time. I never agreed to this sharing (or at least I don't remember clicking that box). Has anyone else had their wearable data used against them or for them without clear consent?

Omg same thing happened to me. I got this basic Fitbit from my gym for free and next thing I know my insurance is texting me about my step count. I swear I never clicked anything about sharing that info.

That gym Fitbit is just the tip of the iceberg honestly. Seems like everything we touch these days has some hidden data sharing agreement buried in the fine print. The whole "free stuff" thing is always gonna come with a catch.

Dude YES @lily_torres31 that is literally the same thing I went through! I picked up a "free" step counter from a health fair last year. Didn't read a single word, just grabbed it. Two months later my health plan sends me a congratulations email for hitting my weekly step goals. I was so creeped out. They definitely didn't ask permission either. Now I just use a regular pedometer from the dollar store. No Bluetooth, no app, no nonsense.
