Lost $200 on a 'smart' thermostat that sold my data

Last spring I bought a Nest knockoff from a random brand on Amazon. Three days in my schedule got wiped and the app showed my home at 80 degrees when it was actually 65. I checked the privacy policy after I uninstalled it and it had a clause letting them share temperature patterns with third parties. Has anyone else had a smart home device betray them like this?

Oh man, that's rough. My smart speaker once started playing heavy metal at 3am because someone hacked it, so at least you got privacy violated instead of a rude awakening, lol.

Used to think smart home stuff was just harmless convenience, but reading about that data-sharing clause totally flipped my opinion.
