My kid's school app shared our whole family calendar with a tutoring company
I was at home last Tuesday when I got a text from a tutor I'd never contacted, asking if we wanted to schedule a session during the 'open slot' she saw next Thursday. The school's parent portal app, which we used for lunch payments, had a buried setting that shared calendar data with 'partner services'. It took me an hour to find the toggle and turn it off. Has anyone else had a school or app pull something like this with family data?

Oh wow, that is so creepy. Did you get a weird feeling when you saw that text? My daughter's sports team app did something similar last year. It shared our home address with a uniform company without any clear warning, and we started getting catalogs in the mail. I had to dig through so many menus to find where they hid the privacy settings.

That bit about the uniform company getting your home address is just as bad. It's like they're counting on us being too busy to dig through all those menus. What are we supposed to do, audit every single app our kids need for school? It feels so sneaky to hide settings like that.
